There are two types of timber that are commonly used for landscaping: Pine and Hardwood.
Accordingly, each has different qualities and features, and it would be advisable to know what they are, in order to pick the right choices later on.
Remember: choosing the proper timber and construction materials can be quite tricky. As it is, you should be able to understand them, in order to get the full benefits that you want.
To help you out, let’s discuss the distinctions of pine and hardwood:
Generally, natural pine timbers are not as durable compared to Hardwood timbers, most especially when related to the harsh climate conditions of Australia. However, pine can be treated with preservatives, in order to give it additional durability and strength.
It is important to note, however, that treating pine timbers has some specific requirements. In order to make it efficient for outdoor use, treated pines must be Sapwood or 80% Sapwood.
Don’t opt for treated pines that are Truewood, as they can be quite difficult to treat, unlike Sapwood where preservatives can be easily absorbed. Otherwise, you might end up investing in timber that won’t be as stable and as durable as you hope they’d be.
Hardwood can be quite durable. If you want to make it even stronger, you can also use preservatives for added effects. However, this type of timber can be a bit more expensive compared to other options.
In the end, one thing is clear: timber, whether pine or hardwood, are very good construction materials. They can be quite beautiful and sturdy, which means they can add more beauty and efficiency to your landscape, home or for whatever structure you may use them for. You just need to understand what your needs are, in order to ensure that you’re investing in materials that you actually need.
