As the premier timber suppliers in Brisbane, we feel it’s important to use as many sustainable local sources for our timber as possible. According to a recent article in Timberbiz, a lot of people around the world agree with us.
Around the world, forests are disappearing or becoming severely degraded. Degradation and deforestation around the world is having a negative effect on livelihoods, biodiversity, economic growth and the ability to fight climate change.
At the end of 2016, world leaders and others described as “stakeholders” convened in Cancun, Mexico, for the United Nations Biodiversity Conference. While they were in town, a one day “side event” focused on reforestation was put on by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR).
The event was called Forest Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Day. The team leader of the Forest Management and Restoration program for CIFOR, scientist Manuel Guariguata, presented the latest research, published that very day, about “participatory approaches for forest landscape restoration.”
A large number of other organisations from around the world joined in. Besides the forest landscape restoration presentation, presenters also covered a wide range of topics such as biodiversity, climate resilience, food security and the connections between agriculture and forest landscapes.
Why Timber Suppliers Care
We can’t speak for all timber suppliers in Brisbane, but we can speak for ourselves. We care deeply about our forests and about leaving a decent climate for our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
But even if you ignore the climate change issue, forest preservation and biodiversity right here at home are important to us. We live in the best country in the world and we want to keep it that way.
So we do our part by using local, sustainable sources for as much of our timber as possible. If we can help support our local economy, keep our prices down and help keep global warming from overtaking humanity, we can feel good about ourselves when we look in the mirror.
That’s why we care and that’s why we use local, sustainable sources for our timber. To learn more, call (07) 3888 1293.
