Your Timber Fence: Repair or Replace

We supply a lot of timber fencing in the Brisbane area. Timber fencing that is made out of the right kind of timber can last for a long time, but even the best timber can occasionally sustain damage or rot. At Narangba Timbers, we sell CCA-treated hardwood and pine for the three main components of fencing: posts, rails and palings.

Your Timber Fence: Repair or Replace

If your fencing is made of any of our timbers, repairs should be minimal. CCA helps protect wood from microorganisms that cause rotting and it also protects the wood from insects. CCA is environmentally safe when used in fencing. The only caveat is that you should never burn CCA treated wood unless it is done in a special incinerator.

When Problems Do Occur

If part of a fence is broken or it rots, we recommend replacing the piece of timber that has been compromised. Often, repairs will seem “minor,” but we see rotting as a problem that affects the entire piece of timber and can spread to the next piece and the next piece.

It is much better to simply buy whatever piece you need and replace it before it can compromise any other pieces of timber. We know this can be an inconvenience, especially in the case of rails, which will be attached to a number of palings, but replacement is the best long-term solution.

If your solution is only for the short term, “minor repairs” can be made without replacing the wood. For example, if you are planning on replacing your fence in a few months but need to repair a small portion of the fence now, a stopgap solution is appropriate.
